Don't pick it up, don't lay it down

There was a time in my life when I took everything personally. The slightest sarcasm would have me analyzing and criticizing myself for days. Now being older, a mother, and a slight bit wiser I live by the mantra "don't pick it up, don't lay it down." The beautiful Maya Angelou enlightened me when she explained this. If I believe the compliments and praises then I must believe the abuses and negative commentary. Connecting with my inner beliefs about myself was hard when I believed in so many mistruths.
Today I believe that I will be ok. My family is what I value most and hold highest. Everyday I work on building a better relationship with myself. Giving is my greatest joy and my utopia is good food and good company. Laughter is my euphoria and above all, Love is all we need.

Like a tree with strong roots I will face warmth and coldness, but I will stand tall and still.
